Last Saturday, 11/18, United Way’s Volunteer Engagement Team celebrated the inaugural Fill the Freezer event, bringing together area chefs and volunteers at the MATC downtown campus teaching kitchens to create nearly 300 freezer meals for families in need in our community.

On Monday, five different United Way program partners came to pick up meals and extra produce for their clients: The Women’s Center, Pathfinders, Hebron House, Walker’s Point Youth & Family Center, and UNISON.

Thank you  to Fill the Freezer sponsor ManpowerGroup and host MATC. Thank you also to Chef Mary Dess and participating Chefs  Brian Frakes, Thi Cao, Guy Davies, Garold Spire, Cole Ersel, Jennifer DeLaura, Felicia Rottinghaus, Adam Genrich, and MATC’s culinary arts program faculty and staff.

Fill the Freezer was one of a dozen United Way signature volunteer events United Way put on throughout 2017, meaning volunteers worked with United Way directly, rather than using United Way to connect to an agency program partner. Other events included the Milwaukee and Waukesha Ready, Set, Work! Women’s Job Seminars, the Success Starts Here! Men’s Conference, Intern Day of Action, the Financial Empowerment Seminar, and others.
