Diversity is a popular word these days. For most, when we hear the word diversity we tend to think of racial diversity. However, our guests today want us to expand our understanding of the word diversity as inclusive of all ages, abilities, religions, sexual orientations, backgrounds and, yes, races.
In March, we sat down with Darlene Slaughter, Chief Diversity Officer at United Way Worldwide, and Candi Castleberry Singleton, Founder of Diversity & Respect Inc, an organization dedicated to making the world a better place for ALL to live – with ALL of our differences. Darlene and Candi were in town to conduct United Way’s yearly all-staff training around diversity and inclusion, so I jumped at the chance to pick their brains about diversity, inclusion, and how they lean on each other during challenging times.
Fun Fact: recently, Candi Castleberry Singleton was named Vice President of Diversity & Inclusion at Twitter! Read more about this exciting development.
