Building Organizational Capacity: The mission of Public Allies is to build a just and equitable society and the diverse leadership to sustain it. Public Allies Wisconsin works at the system-level to dismantle white supremacist, heteropatriarchal beliefs about who should lead, how they should lead, and what they should have accomplished prior to being considered for leadership. Using an asset-based approach steeped in a deep and unwavering commitment to equity, our program builds equitable pathways to leadership for those who are traditionally overlooked in society. We systematically alter the leadership pipeline to reflect justice, equity, and diversity through our signature program, The Public Allies Apprenticeship. We intentionally recruit emerging leaders (Allies) from communities whose voices have been silenced to participate in our program. By providing access to a full-time, paid, non-profit apprenticeship that also includes leadership development training and career coaching, we break down the barriers that cause people to overlook Trans*, Queer, Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (TQBIPOC), and low-income young adults in Milwaukee, Racine and Kenosha for leadership positions.
