"Losing my home was me feeling lost," Glendalys said. "I felt scared. Very scared. Not only for me, but for my kids."
When Glendalys lost her home, she had very few options. Without many people to turn to, she was confused and worried about how she would provide a safe space for her family. They temporarily moved in with a friend, who referred Glendalys to Bay View Community Center.
Bay View Community Center is a nonprofit serving southeast Wisconsin for over 40 years. They emphasize community building and enriching lives, and the best way to do that is with food and families. Their emergency food pantry provides families with resources they need and teaches parents and caregivers how to prepare different, nutritious meals with fresh food in their newly opened commercial kitchen.
Glendalys knows that volunteers will also do whatever they can to help her fulfill her family’s needs. She feels welcome at Bay View Community Center because they treat her with respect and listen to her. Stable and working now, it’s still refreshing to Glendalys to know that she can turn to Bay View Community Center to help her family navigate tough times.
"When I do struggle, the first place I think of is Bay View Community Center," Glendalys said. "I come here, and they help me."
Together, we can provide community support just like the staff and volunteers at Bay View Community Center, and we can do this by supporting programs like their emergency food pantry. Your donation to United Way’s Community Fund makes this possible. Together, we can Live United.
