Every two weeks, Larry, a volunteer through Eras Senior Network, visits Carol and her service dog, Diva. Together, they go grocery shopping. They spend time discussing the shopping list at Carol’s home before heading to the store. The trip isn’t rushed nor is it a chore. It’s a chance to connect and catch up.

Eras Senior Network’s mission is to support seniors and adults with disabilities in leading meaningful lives. Volunteers are carefully onboarded and paired with clients to make sure their needs are met through positive relationships. They are strategic in this approach so that clients maintain their independence and dignity while receiving the assistance they need.

"In being able to pair that volunteer and that client together, we’ve seen opportunities where lasting friendships have been formed," Darryl Anerson, Executive Director of Eras Senior Network reflected.

Because United Way helps to fund the Neighborhood Outreach Project at Eras, services like assistance in grocery shopping don’t cost anything for clients, which aids those living on a fixed income. It strengthens the bond that volunteers and clients have.

"I just enjoy shopping with Larry," said Carol. "He’s so helpful. He’s just the greatest."

Together, we can continue to help seniors and adults with disabilities remain independent through the programs at Eras Senior Network. When you give to United Way’s Community Fund, you’re supporting programs like the Neighborhood Outreach Project at Eras Senior Network. Together, we can Live United.
