We know that volunteering is good for our health, fills us with love, and makes a positive impact in communities. It allows us to connect with ourselves, our coworkers, and with new and old friends. And it’s a great way to support organizations who provide vital services to groups and people who need it most.
We know why we at United Way of Greater Milwaukee & Waukesha County volunteer and it inspired us to ask, “Why do you volunteer?” With the help of several volunteers and key workplace partners, we learned why others in our community volunteer as well. Their answers filled us with joy!
Read why some of our best volunteers and partners volunteer with United Way and become inspired to share the love with your own volunteer experience.

“Volunteering with United Way is a meaningful way to connect with both colleagues and other people in the community as we all come together for an important purpose. The United Way staff is so organized, and the Volunteer Center space provides the perfect venue. “Volunteering with United Way gives me a front-row seat to see the impact on those we serve. We may not always see the full influence of our volunteer hours. Some of it is immediate but the hope is we’re contributing to long-term, sustained support for our community members by providing them with tools, encouragement, and assurance to reach their potential. Additionally, the experiences I have in my United Way engagements provides me energy to bring back into both my work life and personal life.”
– David Gricunas, Northwestern Mutual
