I recently read a wonderful Abraham Lincoln quote from the first Lincoln-Douglas Debate, August 21, 1858. He said:
“In this and like communities, public sentiment is everything. With public sentiment, nothing can fail; without it, nothing can succeed.”
Public sentiment is our United Way. The people who make up our community. The people we serve and serve with. Our extended family. Our network. Our purpose. Mary Lou Young (center) with 2015 Campaign Co-chairs (left to right): Cory Nettles, Suzanne Kelley, Catherine A. Jacobson, Alex A. Molinaroli
For all of you who invest in the potential of others – thank you. Like you, I want great things for our community. Every year the community rallies and mobilizes resources through United Way to help people. It is this same spirit of our community that, over time, can rally to create conditions to change the trajectory of a generation of people.
Just one year ago, the boards of directors for United Way of Greater Milwaukee and United Way of Waukesha County approved our merger. Now we have greater impact, better understanding, stronger relationships and easier engagement in our community.
With your support, we are providing a bigger platform to collaborate, a perspective to prioritize, an engine to raise and deploy funds, and the leadership necessary to stay strong and focused.
The record $60,066,597 raised in our 2015 campaign puts United Way on pace to invest more than ever into changing lives in our 4-county region in 2016. Thank you for investing your time and resources to make our community a better place to live.
