Montrell Manuel is an 8th grade student at Hopkins-Lloyd Community School. He sat down with us to talk about getting free books through the My Very Own Library program, his favorite book, and how reading more will help him succeed.
What is your favorite part of My Very Own Library?
I enjoy getting free books. This is my second year here, so I will have 20 books by the end of the year.
What is your favorite book? What book are you currently reading?
My favorite book is Hatchet by Gary Paulsen. I’m currently reading The Making of a Navy Seal by John David Mann.
How does reading help your future? Why is reading important to you?
It will help me get a job in the future. Reading helps me understand things that I will need to know for the future. Reading is important to me to get further in life.
If you could be one character from your favorite book who would you be and why?
I would be Brian from Hatchet. He survived being in the wild and overcame adversity.
What do you want to be when you grow up?
When I get older I want to be a carpenter.
Volunteer to help at the next My Very Own Library event on February 15th. Morning and afternoon shifts available.
