Starting on May 15, 2018 and up until July 2, 2018 you can go to the website https://childtaxrebate.wi.gov/ and apply for a $100 credit per dependent child who is eligible.  (Dependency is determined using the guidance described in the IRS Publication 201 regardless of whether the claimant files a 2017 federal income tax return).

This credit is only available for a child who was a resident in Wisconsin and is a United States citizen as of December 31, 2017.  Nonresidents and part-year residents that moved out of Wisconsin in 2017 must submit receipts showing at least $100 of State sales/use tax paid in 2017 and show proof for each child as a Wisconsin resident on December 31, 2017.

A child can only be claimed by one individual.

What do you need?

  • Your social security number and proof of Wisconsin residency for tax year 2017
  • Your qualified child’s Social Security number and date of birth
  • Bank routing number and account number for direct deposit

Where to start:  https://childtaxrebate.wi.gov/

Help is available: La Casa de Esperanza’s Center for Financial Stability has staff on site that can assist you to apply for the rebate.  Please call 262-899-6784 for further assistance or visit our website.
