As part of their 2015 United Way campaign, employees at Marcus Investments took time out of their work day to volunteer and pack 200 shoeboxes with health and hygiene products for those in need in our community.
Employees were divided into two teams: men vs. women. Each of the teams came up with different strategies to pack as many kits as possible in just two minutes. At one point, the men were throwing objects to each other from across the room to the cheers of their coworkers. Throughout the competition, both teams support each other. In the end, the women’s team was victorious!
During the project, Ben Hastil of Walker’s Point Youth & Family Center, a United Way program partner, also spoke to volunteers about how a box of hygiene products is fundamental in preventing illness and promoting good health in our community, especially among homeless populations. By the end of the experience employees not only had a great time, but were happy the kits would make a lasting difference in our four-county region.
As a surprise finale to the project, Marcus Investments employees at the firm challenged their CEO to match the 200 hygiene kits and all individual monetary donations to their final United Way campaign total...and he whole heartily agreed!
The hygiene kits will be distributed to local homeless shelters and health clinics, including Walker’s Point Youth & Family Center.
