United Way is thrilled President Obama celebrated Milwaukee’s work on the Healthy Communities Challenge with a visit to our program partner United Community Center (UCC).
Hear what UCC Executive Director Ricardo Diaz had to share about the special visit:
It was an absolute honor to host President Barack Obama at the United Community Center (UCC) on March 3. UCC has been a leader in providing education and health programming for clients of all ages on Milwaukee’s south side. Being selected as the location trusted to accommodate the President’s visit tells us people are noticing that our organization is doing great things. We wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for organizations like the United Way of Greater Milwaukee and Waukesha County, who has provided the foundation and support that has guided us in our mission for 46 years.
Thank you Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett, Congresswoman Gwen Moore, Kathleen Falk and countless community leaders for helping our city win the Healthy Communities Challenge. We look forward to continuing to partner with incredible leaders and organizations that are committed to the future of our community and will work with the UCC to share opportunities in health and education with Milwaukee’s south side.
This visit was important to our amazing staff members who work hard every day to provide quality programs and rewarding opportunities to 2,000 clients. Even more importantly, it was a chance for our kids in Bruce-Guadalupe Community School to see the President of the United States of America come to their school and show them what we tell families every day: no matter where someone comes from, if they are given the opportunities and put the hard work in, they will succeed.
