On September 3 Bon-Ton hosted their 6th annual charity golf outing benefitting United Way’s Community Campaign. The event raised a record $491,594!
We asked Christine Hojnacki, Vice President of Public Relations & Special Events at The Bon-Ton Stores Inc. a few questions about the powerful partnership between our two organizations.

Your team hosts an amazing golf outing every year to support United Way's annual campaign. What goes on behind the scenes?
Not only do we host the golf portion, but we also host a Spa Outing and Adventure Outing for those who do not golf but want to participate.
There is an amazing team here at Bon-Ton that volunteer their time and efforts to get this very complicated and fun event executed. We started planning back in March for this year’s event and we have added a pre-event evening cocktail cruise on Lake Geneva the night before.

What’s this coveted “Golden Ticket” we’ve heard so much about?
This year’s Golden Ticket provided the opportunity for golf teams to have 7 advantages (some call them “cheats”) and a chance to win fabulous prizes like a Caribbean vacation or a Harley-Davidson motorcycle on the par 3 holes. Over 700 people participated in this year’s event!
How do you raise excitement about the United Way campaign both in your corporate offices and your stores around the country?
We make United Way and volunteer opportunities part of our culture at Bon-Ton. We encourage all Associates to get involved in their communities, and United Way provides such a fabulous structure for helping to “do good things”.

What advice do you give to new Bon-Ton associates who want to get involved in the community?
Our new Associates are given details from day one on how they can get involved and give back to our community. Some options include being part of our Bravo! Program, payroll deductions to United Way and paid volunteer days. Associates that donate at certain levels through payroll deduction even get a day off with pay!
