On October 5, 10% of daily sales at Café el Sol, a Puerto Rican and Mexican restaurant located inside the United Community Center, will be donated to United Way’s 2016 campaign. Café el Sol is just one of nearly 40 restaurants across our four-county region who will be serving up delicious courses and compassion for our community, as part of United We Dine.
This will be the fourth year Café el Sol is participating in United We Dine. “United We Dine is a great opportunity to both be visible in the community, particularly to a demographic that is often unfamiliar with our restaurant, and also to support United Way and the great work that they are doing to better the community that we live in,” says Chef Luis Garcia.
On October 5, Chef Luis recommends you stop in for the special, Carne Guisada, a Puerto Rican style beef stew served with white rice and salad. Their full menu will also be available for purchase, and 10% of sales will be donated to United Way’s Community Fund.
But there’s more to Café El Sol than just amazing food. “I am very proud to be the chef at Café el Sol because we have a rich history and presence within the community,” says Chef Luis.
The restaurant began 1983 as a pilot program to train unemployed youth in food preparation, cash handling and customer service. Over the years, it has grown to become a catering service and meeting space utilized by various for-profit and nonprofit organizations throughout Wisconsin.
“Like other partner agencies, some of our programs and services would not be possible and many of our clients would not receive the education and care that they deserve without United Way,” says Chef Luis. “Café El Sol is proud to be able to help strengthen our community by participating in United We Dine.”
