Welcome to spring 2017! Take advantage of the nice(r) weather, longer days, and improved moods by signing up for a fun volunteer project this month.
- Create a Note of Encouragement for a sexual assault survivor. April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Write a quick note of encouragement from your desk, phone, or home computer to individuals that support survivors of sexual assault. Write your own note or choose a pre-written template. Also, don’t forget to wear jeans on Denim Day, April 26, to show your support for survivors!
- Help local kids build their bookshelf. Volunteers will help students choose three free books, manage check out, and keep the books organized. Thursday, April 6, shifts 9am-noon or 12:30-3:30pm, Hadfield or Hawthorne Elementary Schools (Waukesha).
- Donate health and hygiene items. Milwaukee Area Labor Council is collecting new health and hygiene items to donate to area homeless shelters. Drop off your donations at United Way’s Milwaukee office at 225 W. Vine Street or Waukesha office at 1717 Paramount Drive.
- Be a financial empowerment coach. Help community members create a budget and meet their financial goals. Volunteers will help clients through a budget worksheet and talk over available community resources. April 25, 5:30-8:00pm, La Casa de Esperanza (Waukesha).
- Get ready for United Way Field Day. Volunteer to guide students and teachers through interactive stations focused on healthy living and healthy fun. May 12, 12:30-4pm at Whittier Elementary School in Waukesha or June 2, 11:30-2:30pm at Auer Avenue Elementary School in Milwaukee.
