Let’s face it: there’s just never enough time in the day to do everything we want to do. Between work, family and friends it’s hard to squeeze in extra activities like volunteering. Well, United Way is here to help. During the month of March, we are highlighting a new type of giving back that you can do from your desk, your couch… wherever! It’s called virtual volunteering.
Virtual volunteering, also known as online volunteering, means volunteer tasks are completed, in whole or in part, online. When you volunteer virtually, you help others from wherever you are, be that at work, at home, or away. Opportunities range from 5-minute projects to ongoing mentoring. Have a half hour during your lunch at work? Write a quick note of encouragement to a kid at Boys & Girls Clubs. Waiting for your child to finish soccer practice? Do some online career coaching with High School students. Stuck inside because of a snow storm? Use your writing and editing skills to help a local nonprofit promote their services.
Our featured project for March 2017 is Notes of Encouragement, where volunteers write a short note to kids at local Boys & Girls clubs who are learning to read. March is National Reading Month-- you can help celebrate by creating a Note of Encouragement today!
Like all of our volunteer opportunities, United Way makes it easy for you to give back. Excited about virtual, semi-virtual, and at home volunteering? Click here to find more opportunities in our community.
