Mental illness does not discriminate. It can affect anyone, regardless of age, gender, race, ethnicity, geography, income, or social status. Stressors in today’s world can lead to mental illness. Today’s youth are facing many stressors, including high school and attempting to navigate the next stage in life. It’s evident that youth mental health is an urgent need.

When we listen to student voices, we can give mental wellness the attention it deserves. In early 2023, United Way, with guidance from local, state, and national experts, as well as those with live experience, launched our Teen Mental Wellness: Empowering Minds initiative. Its focus is to create Empowering Minds Schools of Distinction, which provide a continuum of services that promote student mental health and well-being. Together with our community partners, we’ve set a goal: Empowering Minds Schools will elevate the mental wellness of 21,000 high school students by 2030.

It’s not a “one size fits all” approach – students come from diverse backgrounds and experiences, and schools have different needs. Your donation to Teen Mental Wellness: Empowering Minds helps to change the lives of students in our community.
