‘Big impact:’ Construction on Johnson Controls Volunteer Center hits midway point

United Way of Greater Milwaukee & Waukesha County has broken ground on its new million dollar Johnson Controls Volunteer Center. Work began on Monday, March 19, 2018. In 2015, Johnson Controls, made a generous donation of $1 million dollars over three years to ensure the center becomes a state-of-the-art community hub where volunteers can get connected to issues they care about and make a lasting impact on the community.

This fellowship program is an accelerated development course designed for core leaders of United Way who are high performers and proven capacity for leadership.

Milwaukee is one of 10 that will receive approximately $150,000 to support the activities and goals set forth in their collaborative plans.

PNC Foundation Donates to Provide Meals for Residents at Clare Hall

United Way of Greater Milwaukee & Waukesha County announced today a donation from the PNC Foundation to support United Way’s COVID-19 Urgent Needs Fund. PNC’s support will help provide meals for the next three months to residents of Clare Hall, a vacant seminary converted to help the homeless and those most vulnerable to COVID-19. PNC is one of 23 companies who have made a contribution to this special fund set up by United Way of Greater Milwaukee & Waukesha County as a way to assist nonprofit agency partners with their most pressing needs and essential services during the COVID-19 crisis.

Through broadband access, device distribution, and digital skills training, our Techquity initiative can bridge the digital divide. The vision is simple: to ensure that every resident of Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Washington, and Waukesha counties has digital equity and inclusion.

Together, Community Advocates and Legal Aid Society of Milwaukee are working to make sure families don’t experience homelessness with support from United Way’s Safe & Stable Homes initiative.

Safe & Stable Homes in Waukesha: Crystal & Family Promise

When Crystal had unexpected medical problems, the risk of homelessness for her and her three sons loomed. The Family Homelessness Prevention Program at Family Promise of Waukesha County helped Crystal stay in her home.

Eras Senior Network’s mission is to support seniors and adults with disabilities in leading meaningful lives. Larry, a volunteer through Eras Senior Network's Neighborhood Outreach Project, takes Carol and her service dog grocery shopping every other week.

Community Fund: Glendalys & Bay View Community Center

When Glendalys lost her home, she had very few options until a friend referred her to Bay View Community Center. Their emergency food pantry provides families with resources and teaches parents how to prepare different, nutritious meals for their families.

Community Fund: Mikayla & City Year

City Year helps students with educational curricula as well as helping them develop their social and emotional learning. Alumni like Mikalya act as tutors and mentors, ensuring that students receive equitable opportunities in education.

In downtown Waukesha, Literacy Services of Wisconsin provides reading and numeracy for adults in our community who may be struggling with illiteracy.
